Stares

For the longest time I always assumed the ONLY reason people stare at me is because of the clothing I choose to wear. When most people see a man in a skirt or a dress they do stare. Why? It's outside the norm. It's certainly not because I look silly or bad - I wouldn't step outside if I looked bad. I just look different.

But lately I have noticed that people stare no matter what I am wearing. Because even without the trademark clothing I still look different. Is it the hair? Yes I do have hot pink streaks in my hair, but I am a hair stylist so my hair is my work. Is it that I am 5'4" tall? I am short by todays' standards. Is it because I am with a hot woman (my wife)? Could be.

Ultimately, however, I think people just stare. Some people may stare because they think I am attractive (or the complete opposite). Some people stare because they find me interesting and write their own stories about me (I do that to people all the time.) Some people may not even be staring - just looking my way.

In reality we all do this. We people watch. It's natural. I guess when you're a transgendered male and you tend to wear the clothing of the opposite gender you get used to stares. And even when you're wearing the clothing of your gender and you get stares you instantly want to think "do they KNOW?"

Honestly, I don't care about the stares. Let them look. I hope they are looking on and thinking "I could pull that off." or "I could never pull that off." or "I wish my husband cared as much about the way he looks." or "Damn he's hot." or "Damn that woman with him is hot."

But even those that are looking on thinking "What a freak." Well, at least I gave them something to talk about later. They'll go home and fill their children with closed-minded thoughts and raise them in ways counter-productive to our great country.

It doesn't really matter to me why or if you stare. I walk around with blinders on anyway. I don't want to see all the hatred and ugliness in humanity so I choose to hide my eyes from it.

So stare on all you people out there. Stare on. And if you like what you see, don't hesitate to say so.
